How To Fit A Casement Window Stay

Casement stays are used to hold a casement window open in a fixed position. There are two components of a casement stay – the stay itself, which is a long metal bar with holes along it, and the pins that hold it in place.

To fit a casement stay, follow these steps:

  1. Hold the stay up against the window frame to mark where the screw holes should be. The stay should be installed off-centre at the bottom of the window, away from the hinged side. This will allow the window to open and be held open properly.
  2. Drill pilot holes into the areas you marked in step 1.
  3. Replace the casement stay and fix it into place.
  4. Close the window and place the first pin inside the first hole of the stay. Mark through the screw holes of the pin.
  5. Drill pilot holes into the areas you marked in step 4.
  6. Replace the first pin and fix it into place.
  7. Place the second pin inside the last hole of the stay and push the stay arm tight against the window. Mark through the screw holes of the pin.
  8. Drill pilot holes into the areas you marked in step 7.
  9. Replace the second pin and fix it into place.

Repeat these steps as many times as needed for your window installation!
