Using Silicone Sealant Cartridges

Although it is possible to buy silicone sealant in squeezy tubes, the vast majority of contractors, installers and keen DIY’ers use a skeleton gun. This is a metal or plastic framed gun that holds the cartridge in place and expresses the silicone out of the nozzle when the trigger of the gun is depressed.

Like most adhesives, silicone needs to cure to be effective. The means that the silicone sealant needs to dry properly before its properties are fully operative. Curing time varies depending upon the thickness of the bead and the humidity in the application area.

Silicone sealant is resistant to moisture, weathering and most other chemicals. It retains its elasticity across a broad range of temperatures.
