Shield Anchors

Despite there being many different manufacturers of shield anchors, they are still commonly called rawlbolts. This is the most recognised brand, made by rawlplug.

Shield anchors or rawlbolts are general purpose expansion anchors that spread the expansion force across the whole length of the shield when tightened, spreading the shield and forcing it to grip around the inside of the hole. They are commonly used to fix a variety of products into masonry and concrete.

Unlike sleeve anchors, shield anchors enable the shield to be installed into the substrate before the fixture is offered up into position.

The shield can also be bought separately if required, enabling any type of metric fastener to be utilised with the shield if the standard bolt or nut head isn’t suitable for the application in question. Care should be taken however when using other fasteners with the shield as this could affect the technical data values for loading.

For the standard loose bolt version, various lengths of bolts are available depending on the thickness of material to be fastened down. For example, the size M8x10L would fasten material up to 10mm in thickness.

The nut type of shield anchor is often referred to as “projecting bolt”, as it allows for positioning the item into place over the projecting thread before fastening the nut and washer to secure the item in question to the recommended torque.
