Deadlocks
A deadlock is a kind of lock that does not have a latch. This means that while the door can be locked shut, it is not held closed when unlocked.
Deadlocks are used to ensure that doors are kept securely locked. They also prevent would-be burglars that have entered the home via a window or skylight from escaping with large valuable items, as they require a key to unlock from both sides of the door. Most insurance companies require deadlocks on all doors that have external access in the home.
