Drop in anchors, also known as wedge anchors, are internally (female) threaded anchors used for anchoring items into solid concrete – not brick or blockwork.
The anchor size refers to the inside diameter of the anchor. The drill size required for the hole is the same size as the outside diameter of the anchor. Once drilled, all dust should be removed from the hole using a vacuum, pump or compressor. This is to ensure correct fastening.
After inserting into the anchor into the hole (open end up), tap it gently with a hammer to ensure that it is flush with the base material. A setting tool is then used to hammer the pin at the bottom of the anchor that forces the end to expand. When the lip of the setting tool contacts the lip of the anchor it has been correctly set.
