How Does a Washing Line Pulley Work?

Washing line pulleys have been around as early as the beginning of the 19th century, and serve as a way to hang clothes up to dry whilst standing in one place.

They work using a simple method. The pulley features a wheel that spins, which when rope or cord is threaded around it allows the material to be manoeuvred back and forth. Washing lines usually use two pulleys, and rope or cord is threaded around it to create a long loop. Once it’s all strung up, all you have to do is push or pull one side of the rope or cord loop and watch as it pushes the hung-up clothes away from you or brings them closer!
