Rivet Bushes - Hex - Self Colour

Rivet bushes are also commonly called hank bushes. They are used to provide a permanent female thread in thin or hard sheet metals without the need for welding.

Hexagon hank rivet bushes have a protruding spigot and a hexagon body. A hole the same size as the spigot is drilled in the sheet material, and the sheet is placed over the rivet bush with the spigot protruding and the underside of the sheet resting on the hexagon body of the bush. The top of the spigot is then “peened” over - worked using either a hammer or a press. This creates a flange which compresses the sheet from the top, forcing it onto the points on the top of the hexagon body which then bite into the sheet.

This spigot of the hank rivet bush varies in length depending on the thickness of the material that is being fastened on to.

Hexagon rivet bushes are available in a choice of self-colour, zinc plated or stainless steel.

About The Self Colour Finish

Steel products described as having a self colour finish are best suited to internal applications, as they have no additional protection against corrosion. The shade of a self colour finish can vary from bright metal to black, and it will change over time with oxidisation.

If you plan to use self colour finishes outdoors you should paint them to give them a protective coating.
